The engine is the very heart of your vehicle and you must pay attention to the most vital part of the body. If you continue to ignore the red light of the engine which indicates something is wrong with it, you may lead to more damage, and increasing costs in the future. Be attentive to the sounds, smell, and working of the engine with regular check-ups and oil change.
Bring in your car for quick car engine check or repair service instead of letting your engine work with a faulty part or defect.
Acton Car Service offers car engine repair at an affordable price with our professional and expert technicians and mechanics working to perform all kinds of repairs and upgrades. Whether you have a petrol or diesel engine, we work to ensure that the quality of your engine is maintained.
Here are some common issues that you might face with your car engine:
● Timing chain / Camshaft belt issues
● Oil pump/Fuel pump issues
● Valve damage or piston ring repair
● Loss of oil or coolant
● Smoking engine
● Engine rattling
● Running in limp mode
● Engine management lights on
An illuminated engine warning light means your vehicle has detected a potential emissions fault. The computer has logged one or more diagnostic trouble codes that correspond to the problem and turned on the warning lamp to alert you to the problem. There is NO way to determine the nature of the problem without connecting a diagnostics computer to the vehicle's diagnostic connector to read the fault code(s).
Once this has been done, further diagnosis and testing may be required to isolate the fault so the correct parts can be replaced. Depending on the nature of the fault, your engine may not run as good as it normally does, or it may use more fuel than usual. But usually, the problem requires attention as soon as it is possible. You can continue to drive your car until it can be diagnosed.
Common reasons for the CHECK ENGINE light to come on include the failure of an engine sensor such as the oxygen sensor, throttle position sensor or manifold absolute pressure sensor, or a problem in an emissions control system or such as the catalytic converter.
Oxygen sensors, colloquially known as O2 sensors, make modern electronic fuel injection and emission control possible. They determine if the air-fuel ratio exiting a gas-combustion engine is rich (with unburnt fuel vapour) or lean (with excess oxygen). Unburnt fuel is pollution in the form of air-borne hydrocarbons, while oxides of nitrogen (NOx gases) are a result of excess air in the fuel mixture and cause smog and acid rain.
In practice, the oxygen sensor continually signals the ECM to alter the fuelling by a small amount, to maintain the mixture strength as near as possible (+- 1%) to the theoretical ideal (stoichiometric) ratio of 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel, which is optimum for the catalytic converter to work efficiently.
Some of the common signs that give away the inefficiency of your engine are trouble with starting your car wherein your engine refuses to start. Another fairly common one is the shaking of the car along with some alien noise that tells you that your engine is giving up. Lower Mileage is also an indicator of poor engine health along with stalling of your car.
All these are subtle signs indicating that you should get your engine checked before anything major happens.
Why should you change your engine oil regularly?
To have a well-functioning engine, make sure you change your oil after every 3000-5000 miles. Your car may give you reminders to change the oil but if you continue charging up your engine without providing the ample engine oil, it will lead to the buildup of a sledge in some sensitive and crucial areas of the engine. This will further lead to damage to internal engine bearings, Variable Valve Timing (VVT) components, engine valves, camshafts, crankshafts, push rods, rocker arms and timing chain assemblies.
Why should you tune-up your engine?
Your car engine is equipped with platinum or iridium tipped spark plugs that are tested to have a life of up to 100,000 miles. But this number can differ, depending upon the driving condition faced by you. In some cases, the plug can need replacement after 60,000 and some may even live for the expected time.
It is advisable to get your spark plug changed before they give away as worn-out spark plugs put a lot of strain on the rest of the ignition system.
Moreover, with constant usage, corrosion builds up in the threads of the steel spark plugs that are screwed into an aluminium engine. This may lead to a lot of engine damage and unnecessary cost.

Why should you get your head gasket checked?
The reason why our engine specialists focus on the head gasket is that its overheating can cause huge damage to your engine. The job of the head gasket is to keep the engine oil, engine coolant (antifreeze), and high-pressure cylinder combustion from mixing. When it overheats, the metal components expand and twist which allows engine coolant to leak around the head gasket seal between your engine block and cylinder heads.
When they are mixed, it is nothing short of a disaster for your engine.
At Acton Service Centre, our trained mechanics always look out for faults that can cause overheating. Our advice would be to never drive when the engine temperature is rising.
